THE ROOFING PROCESS - WHAT TO EXPECT
Our goal is always to provide you with the finest craftsmanship and efficiency while minimizing stress. At Westwood Roofing and Remodeling, we like to set realistic expectations up front, so there are no surprises for anyone. We’ve created a list of various things you can expect before, during, and after your reroof.
HOW YOU CAN PREPARE

Since it’s easier to prevent issues than fix them after the fact, we like to provide as much information upfront as possible. Here are some steps you can take ahead of time to make the process go as smoothly as possible.
Throughout the roofing process, we will need your driveway to be completely clear and accessible. The night before, please park your vehicles on the road, a safe distance from the home. Our supplier will be delivering materials reasonably early in the morning, and we don’t want to risk you getting trapped in your garage. The crew will also be bringing a trailer that will be parked in your driveway so they can dispose of your existing shingles. In addition to making sure the driveway is available, please make sure that the walkway around your home is easy to access – which includes unlocking all gates for your yard.
If possible, consider making arrangements for your pets while your roof gets installed. Having a roof installed can be loud and scary for our precious fur babies. The best way to alleviate their anxiety and stress is to find a place to stay during the roofing process.
When re-decking a roof, some debris will fall into the attic. If you would like your items protected, we ask that you cover these items with plastic before the tear-off process begins. Please understand that the crews do not remove the debris that falls into the attic.
In some cases, the work of the crews may cause vibrations inside of your home. Please secure articles such as light fixtures, pictures, mirrors, or other items placed on unprotected shelves or attached to any walls. If you have vaulted ceilings, vibrations can sometimes cause the plaster around nail and screw heads to break and fall away. Exposed nail or screw heads does not indicate a structural concern, but a cosmetic one, and an unavoidable circumstance of replacing a roof. Any re-patching of the plaster on any nail or screw heads in the drywall is the homeowner’s responsibility.
Taking inside any important outdoor decor, toys, or any other items can help them from potentially getting damaged. We do our best to protect your belongings, but accidents can sometimes happen. With your help, we can work together to make this an excellent experience for everyone.
DURING THE INSTALL
Yard Sign – Having a Westwood Roofing and Remodeling sign in the yard helps our suppliers and crews locate the property. We are also proud of our crews’ quality work and would like your neighbors to be aware of our business. For these reasons, we would like to place a professionally made sign on your front lawn up to one week before the start date, remaining there until full payment is collected and for one week after.
Landscaping – We protect plants and landscaping around the house as much as possible. Sometimes this requires covering all or some portions of plants, which will restrict sunlight to them. Delicate plants and grass can lose some color but should return to their original condition with time. If there are low hanging branches on or over the roof, some trimming may be necessary. We will cut back only what is required to complete the job in an efficient and workman-like manner.
Gutters – Unless the manufacturer requires, we do not remove gutters for the install. However, our crews will clean out the entire gutter system when your roof is complete. Upon completion of the roof install, flaws from your existing gutters sometimes appear more visible. If you decide you want to install a new guttering system, we will gladly provide you with a quote.
Siding and Trim – Homes that require a new roof typically have had water penetrating the house and will exhibit signs of rot and deterioration. Sometimes deteriorated wood may not be visible from the ground. If your home was ever re-roofed, there is a chance that roof cement was used in place of flashing. Removal of the existing roof may result in the exposure of damaged siding. Westwood Roofing and Remodeling is not responsible for the replacement of damaged siding or painting under these conditions. Fortunately, if there is damaged wood, paint, or siding, we have expert carpenters who can make these repairs to your home for an additional charge.
Antennas and Solar Panels – Antennas will be removed and reinstalled, provided they are less than 10 feet in height. We cannot be responsible for physical damage or poor reception. In order to waterproof any areas where solar panels exist, solar panels must be removed. Due to their delicate nature, we ask that you contact a specialist in that field to remove and reinstall.
AFTER THE INSTALL IS COMPLETE
Clean-up – Our crew will pick up debris that accidentally dropped in the yard. They will also take a powerful magnet around your home to clean up nails and staples that could be in the driveway or yard. Even with their best efforts, nails can get overlooked. We always recommend that you do a quick inspection before pulling your vehicle back into your driveway. Westwood Roofing and Remodeling is not responsible for damage to your vehicles.
Excess Materials – When ordering materials, we order more than necessary. All extra materials are property of Westwood Roofing and Remodeling and are picked up upon completion of the install and transferred to our warehouse.
Final Inspection – When picking up excess materials, we take extra precautions by running a second magnet around your home. At that time, we do a full walk-around inspection to make sure that the install meets our high-quality standards.
Invoice and Payment – After full completion of the job, we will send your final invoice via email. As stated in our contract, we require full payment within 15 days of completion. We accept personal checks, cashiers checks, or credit cards (subject to a 3% processing fee).
