We are happy to provide you with a free estimate and we will never ask you to sign anything until you are ready to move forward with us.
Do I have to pay for an estimate?
Are you licensed and insured?
Westwood Roofing and Remodeling carries both liability and worker’s compensation as required by law. We also carry a class C contractor’s license as required by the JCCL as well as various municipal licenses when required.
Will I need a permit?
It depends, not all cities require a permit for work. If you live in a city that does require one, we will provide it for you. We are not responsible for obtaining HOA approval. If you live in a Homeowner’s Association, please check with them first to find out if they have an approved list of shingles you can use, or if you need HOA approval.
Are you a member of the Better Business Bureau?
Yes, we are an “Honor Roll” member of the Kansas City Better Business Bureau. An honor roll member is one that has never received a single complaint. Please look us or our competitors up at www.kansascity.bbb.org.
Are you certified installers?
We are proud to be a select member of the CertainTeed Professional Roofer’s Advisory Council and many of others. Also please feel free to ask your sales representative for a further explanation of how these certifications benefit you.
Is a down payment required before work can begin?
No, we will bill you upon completion. However, we do require and appreciate prompt payment upon substantial completion in order to offer this service.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept personal checks, cashiers checks, cash, and credit cards. *All credit card transactions are subject to a 3% processing fee.
Can you explain the difference between (IRC) International Residential Code and (IBC) International Building Code?
The IRC and IBC are an international building codes council. The IRC and IBC codes have been adopted by Johnson County, Jackson County, and the municipalities throughout the greater Kansas City area. Westwood Roofing strictly complies with all building codes put forth by the IRC & IBC.
What type of roofing materials do you use?
We will use only premium roofing materials; however there are many styles and brands of quality roofing shingles available. We install both composition fiberglass asphalt shingles and wood shingles, and are happy to make suggestions, provide samples, or addresses of homes for you to look at. If you have a preference for a specific style or brand, please let us know.
Is there a difference between OSB & CDX plywood decking?
Both ½” CDX & 7/16” OSB are approved as roof decking by IRC & IBC codes. CDX is traditional cross laminated veneered sheets pressed & glued together while OSB (oriented strand board) is an engineered decking consisting of wood strands randomly patterned and pressed together with a waterproof wax and glue. Do not confuse OSB with wafer board or chip board, it is a vastly different product specifically engineered for roofing & siding. Although you won’t have to look too hard for differing opinions on which is better, the simple truth is, installed correctly both products will make for a quality roof deck. At Westwood Roofing we prefer to use OSB. Although all lumber is a commodity and prices can fluctuate greatly in a short amount of time, OSB is generally cheaper to produce and more environmentally sustainable. It is also slightly stronger than CDX and in our experience has been more durable and less likely to warp or de-laminate when exposed to water through either direct contact or humidity. Feel free to ask for more in depth information on differences between these products and pricing,
